Earl Of Essex Regiment of Foote

flag-essex2 No.3: I made this flag to the Earl Of Essex’s Regiment of the Sealed Knot. I left it with the regiment when I left so I have few photographs of it. It was made from a man-made fabric called ‘silkessence’. The colour was a bit bright and the paint did not adhere well. This flag, with a George Cross canton and one mullet was the 1st captain’s flag.

This flag was constructed from single ply of fabric throughout. That is to say, the white and red of the canton are single thickness and once constructed was then ‘let in’ to an open square left in the tawny field. The paint use was a regular household acrylic.
